A Review On The Kite Runner

An enticing and heart-wrenching novel about a boy and his journey to manhood, The Kite Runner, a novel written by Khaled Hosseini tells a story about a beautiful friendship of two young boys Ahmed and Hassan. The two of them were a team and they even shared one passion – kite flying. But things turn around when war comes to Afghanistan and Ahmed committed an act of betrayal towards his best friend, which indeed will haunt him for the rest of his life. As Ahmed left for America with his father, the whole book will revolve around him looking back in the past of his days in Kabul as a young boy. Now that he is a man, he will do everything in his power to seek redemption for the wrongs he has done.

The story never gives a dull moment but it actually made me laugh, cry, and even jump from my seat from time to time. No other book moved me and made me cry as much as The Kite Runner did. This novel gave a new light on what love truly is. Not only did it do that but it also gave me a different perspective on the culture of Afghan life. Despite it being fictional I have come to realize how interesting and fascinating Afghan culture is, more so the people. But the terrors of war ruined all of that as the story not only reminded me but also gave me a new view on the horrors the people face in Afghanistan until this day. Khaled Hosseini wrote the book in a simple yet colorful manner as the words did not only touch my heart but made a powerful impact on my views as well. It was brilliantly constructed and the story was unique nonetheless. The book tackles a lot of topics that not only revolves around friendship, but it also revolves around love, family, love for country, and love for culture.

Nonetheless even if the story was fictional, Khaled depicted the harsh realities life has to offer and how sometimes envy and desire can lead us to do things we will strongly regret later on. The character of Ahmed is anything as real a person could be as it really depicts a young boy who is coming of age, struggling to make decisions that what he thinks is best. What moved me the most was that later on with Ahmed already being an adult travels back home and risks his own life to redeem and pay back the love Hassan gave him. Truly this book will make readers realize that it’s never too late to fix your mistakes and turn your wrongs right. Aside from that, the book also gives a sense of justice of good triumphing evil. The best part even being that it also gives hope, especially to the people of Afghanistan today. I strongly recommend you to read this book, as I’m sure it will touch your heart as it has touched mine.
